About the author


Eggert Þór Bernharðsson was born on 2 June 1958 in Reykjavík. He matriculated from Menntaskólinn við Sund in 1978 and took a BA degree in history, with political science as a minor subject, from the University of Iceland Faculty of Arts in June 1983, and a Cand. Mag. degree in history from the same university in February 1992.

He has been an external lecturer in history at the University of Iceland since autumn 1987.

Bernharðsson has published numerous articles on historical matters, given lectures and talks and undertaken a variety of other history-related activities. He has, in particular, worked on modern history research and has for instance written a two-volume work on the History of Reykjavík 1940-1990 which was nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize in 1998. His book Undir bárujárnsboga (Under Corrugated Iron) was also nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize in 2000.
