Children and Young Adult Books from Iceland at the Göteborg Book Fair 2016 

Five Icelandic Authors will participate in the Seminar Program

Five Icelandic authors of books for children and young adults will participate in the Seminar Program at the Göteborg Book Fair this year; Þórdís Gísladóttir, Snæbjörn Brynjarsson, Kjartan Yngvi Björnsson, Arnar Már Arngrímsson og Ragnhildur Hólmgeirsdóttir.

Five Icelandic authors of books for children and young adults will participate in the Seminar Program at the Göteborg Book Fair this year; Þórdís Gísladóttir, Snæbjörn Brynjarsson, Kjartan Yngvi Björnsson, Arnar Már Arngrímsson og Ragnhildur Hólmgeirsdóttir, and the two last named are nominated for the 2016 Nordic Council Children and Young People´s Literature Prize for their debut novels. In the seminars they will discuss what Icelandic children's and young adult authors do write about today and ask if there is a particular Nordic fantasy. Additionally they will participate in other programmes at the Book Fair, for the Icelandic programme view here. 

Göteborg Book Fair celebrates freedom of expression this year, since it‘s 250 years since the world's first Freedom of the Press Act was approved in Sweden. The Icelandic investigative reporter, Jóhannes Kr. Kristjánsson, takes part in a conversation about the world's biggest leak; Panama Papers.

The Icelandic Literature Center (ILC) did undertake a three-year promotional push in the Nordic countries, aiming to increase the number of Nordic translations of Icelandic literature, which culminated in Iceland's programme Voices from Iceland / Röster från Island at the Göteborg Book Fair last year, where 15 Icelandic authors participated in around 40 programmes. This year the ILC focus is on books for children and young adult. The Icelandic stand is number C03:02.

The Göteborg Book Fair is the largest cultural event in Scandinavia. Established in 1985 with 100.000 visitors. More than 800 exhibitors cover most sectors of the book trade, including fiction, non-fiction, books for children and young adults, educational books, picture-books, magazines, comic books, libraries, art and much, much more.
