More translations from Icelandic but lack of translators

Translation seminars in Norwich and Biskops Arnö

31. March, 2017

Two translators' seminars will take place this spring. For translators from Icelandic into Swedish in Biskops-Arnö and from the Nordic languages into English in Norwich.

Great interest in Icelandic literature

In 2016 the Icelandic Literature Center subsidized the translations of 92 Icelandic works into 28 foreign languages, which is an all-time record. At the same time, we are facing a severe lack of translators into some foreign languages. Therefore, we are very happy about the two translators' seminars taken place this spring.

As a respond to this lack, the Icelandic Literature Center, together with institutes and organisations in the literature sector in Iceland, will organize a translators' seminar in Reykjavik next autumn for translators from Icelandic to many different languages. More information will be announced very soon.

Translators from Icelandic into Swedish in Biskops-Arnö

A two days' seminar was held in Biskops-Arnö, Sweden, 30-31 March, for translators who translate from Icelandic into Swedish. The seminar was organized by the Ambassador of Iceland in Sweden, Estrid Brekkan, and John Swedenmark, the highly-acclaimed and one of the most productive translators of Icelandic literature into Swedish.

Seminar in Norwich for translators from the Nordic languages into English

NordLit (the Nordic literature offices and representatives for the autonomous regions), will organize a two days' seminar for translators from the Nordic languages into English. It will take place in Norwich, England, in May and the focus will be on Nordic literature for children and young adults.
