“Working with the Icelandic manuscripts is like handling mummies from the British Museum,” says the artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir.

Gabríela is now working on an exhibition which will open in Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt in late September. Titled Crepusculum, it incorporates nine Icelandic vellum manuscripts, chosen by Gabríela herself.

“I chose the manuscripts largely based on their appearance, which was a bit surprising to the scholars at the Árni Magnússon Institute. The manuscripts fascinated me as receptacles –as soul capsules documenting incredible events from the past. It rhymes perfectly with what I'm doing with my work.”
