Nominations for The Women's Literature Prize (Fjöruverðlaunin)

Nine books by Icelandic female writers are nominated for Fjöruverðlaunin / Women's Literature Prize in three categories; Fiction, Non-Fiction and YA

The Women's Literature Prize will be awarded on January 15th 2019. Below is a list of this year's nominated works in each category. 

Fiction - Nominated works:

  • Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir: Ástin, Texas. Publisher: Bjartur
  • Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir: Ungfrú Ísland. Publisher: Benedikt
  •  Fríða Ísberg: Kláði. Publisher: Partus

Non-Fiction - Nominated works:

  • Auður Jónsdóttir, Bára Huld Beck & Steinunn Stefánsdóttir: Þjáningarfrelsið – óreiða hugsjóna og hagsmuna í heimi fjölmiðla. Publisher: Mál og menning (Forlagið)

  • Bára Baldursdóttur & Þorgerður H. Þorvaldsdóttir: Krullað og klippt: Aldarsaga háriðna á Íslandi. Publisher: Hið íslenska bókmenntafélag

  • Guðrún Nordal: Skiptidagar – Nesti handa nýrri kynslóð. Publisher: Mál og menning (Forlagið)

Children and Young Adult - Nominated works:

  • Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir: Lang-elstur í leynifélaginu. Publisher: Bókabeitan
  • Kristín Helga Gunnarsdóttir. Fíasól gefst aldrei upp. Publisher: Mál og menning (Forlagið)
  • Sif Sigmarsdóttur & Halldór Baldursson: Sjúklega súr saga. Publisher: Mál og menning (Forlagið)

Orðstír is the honorary award for translators of Icelandic literature into a foreign language, and was presented for the third time at Bessastaðir, the presidential residence.

Icelandic Served as an International Language at a Successful Translators' Seminar in Veröld – Vigdis' House - 15. May, 2019 News

Eighteen translators, veterans and newcomers in the field, from 10 linguistic areas gathered at the seminar. The languages that they translate into are Polish, Czech, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, English, Russian, Latvian, German, and Italian.
