NordLit is a network of Nordic literary centers collaborating closely to boost visibility and distribution of Nordic literature in various ways. It is important to meet our Nordic colleagues to discuss literary support, joint events and future collaboration.

Who are the Members of NordLit?

In addition to the Icelandic Literature Center the following centers are part of the network; NORLA in Norway, FILI in Finland, FarLit in the Faeroes, Swedish Arts Council – Literature Exchange in Sweden, GreenLit in Greenland, The samidaiddar in Samland and The Danish Arts Council in Denmark.

Oslo this Year

This time around the seminar was held in Oslo 15-17 January and was hosted by NORLA. Twenty-nine employees and administrators from seven literary centers participated in the seminar. The meetings were held in NORLA's offices in the center of Oslo and touched on various issues regarding the centers' work, participants exchanging ideas and working together on finding ways to enhance and strengthen operations and promotion of Nordic literature in general context.

Norway was Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019

IMG_6589_1581082500360NORLA offered the group a thorough presentation of their extensive preparations and implementation of their successful participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019 as Guest of Honor. The chair of the Norwegian Association of Publishers attended the seminar and presented Norwegian publishing among other topics.

Alfred Nobel and the New Art Museum

The group also visited the Nobel Peace Center and was given a tour of the new art museum that will open in Oslo next year.

NordLit Collaborations in Various Fields

Among collaborative projects in NordLit is the collective Nordic pavilion at the London and Bologna book fairs. NordLit also organises various cooperative projects, translation seminars, publishers' exchanges, staff exchanges, publishing of anthologies, and more.

Nordic Translation Grants

Furthermore, NordLit members cooperate in allocating grants for translations into Nordic languages. The Danish Art Council manages the Nordic translation grants on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, allocating grant money to fellow member institution, who then allocate grants in their own countries. 

The next NordLit meeting will be held in Copenhagen 12-14 January 2021.
