The Role of the Icelandic Literature Center

islit - forsíða

The role of the Center is to promote literary culture in Iceland by, amongst other things, providing financial support toward the publication both of Icelandic writing and of Icelandic translations of foreign literature. In addition, its role is to promote Icelandic literature both at home and abroad, and to encourage its wider dissemination in foreign markets.

The Icelandic Literature Center was founded in the January 2013 and took over the functions of the Icelandic Literature Fund and the book promotion project Sagenhaftes Island/Fabulous Iceland, which had overseen the preparation and realisation of Iceland's role as guest of honour at the world's largest book fair held in Frankfurt in Germany in 2011.
