Promotional push for Icelandic literature in the Nordic countries 2014-2016

The Icelandic Literature Center has undertaken a three-year promotional push, aiming to increase the number of Nordic translations of Icelandic literature.

In May 2014, the Icelandic Literature Center, in collaboration with the Icelandic embassies in Copenhagen and Stockholm, arranged events to present Icelandic literature to Danish and Swedish publishers, where Andri Snær Magnason, a recipient of the Icelandic Literary Prize 2013 for his novel Tímakistan (The Casket of Time), and literary scholar Þorgerður E. Sigurðardóttir, who will discuss development in Icelandic contemporary literature.

In May 2015, the Icelandic Literature Center in collaboration with the Icelandic embassies in Oslo and Helsinki, arranged similar events to promote Icelandic literature to publishers and translators, where Ófeigur Sigurðsson, a recipient of the Icelandic Literary Prize 2014 for his novel Wastelands (Öræfi), and literary scholar Maríanna Clara Lúthersdóttir.

The Icelandic Literature Center has also focused on ensuring the visibility of Icelandic literature at the Göteborg Book Fair, which is the biggest event of its kind in the Nordic countries, and is visited by over 100,000 guests each year.
