Promotional push for Icelandic literature in the Nordic countries

Icelandic Literature Center has undertaken a three-year promotional push, aiming to increase the number of Nordic translations of Icelandic literature.

The Icelandic Literature Center has undertaken a three-year promotional push, aiming to increase the number of Nordic translations of Icelandic literature. 

This spring, the ILC, in collaboration with the Icelandic embassies in Copenhagen and Stockholm, will stage events to present Icelandic literature to Danish and Swedish publishers. Appearing at the events are Andri Snær Magnason, a recent recipient of the Icelandic Literary Prize for his novel Tímakistan (Timebox), and literary scholar Þorgerður E. Sigurðardóttir, who will discuss development in Icelandic contemporary literature. 

In 2015, the Icelandic Literature Center aims to similarly promote Icelandic literature to publishers in Finland, Norway, Greenland and the Faroe Isles. 

The ILC will also focus on ensuring the visibility of Icelandic literature at the Göteborg Book Fair in the autumn of 2014. The book fair is the biggest event of its kind in the Nordic countries, and is visited by over 100,000 guests each year. The Icelandic stand in Göteborg will be managed in collaboration with Promote Iceland.
