Medieval manuscripts to Frankfurt?
Some of Iceland's priceless medieval manuscripts, stored in the Árni Magnússon Institute in Reykjavík, may be included in the Icelandic exhibition at the Frankfurt Book Fair next year.
Germans are keenly interested in Old Icelandic manuscripts, and it will be big news if some of these unique cultural artefacts are sent to be exhibited in Germany. Reclaimed only decades ago, after being stored for centuries in Danish collections, the Icelandic manuscripts can only be sent abroad by special permission of the Government. A high level of security is also required.
Professor Guðrún Nordal, Director of the Árni Magnússon Institute, brought a few of the precious manuscripts out of storage to show us.
