Grants for the translation of Icelandic works into 21 foreign languages

In the previous allocation of the year, 55 grants were awarded for the translation of Icelandic books into 21 languages, including English, French, Polish, German, Ukrainian, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish and Faroese.

The Icelandic Literature Center recently awarded 55 grants for the translation of Icelandic works into 21 foreign languages; these include new works of fiction, thrillers, poetry, children's books and classics

The application deadline for grants for foreign translations is twice a year, in February and in September. 

Many books recently published in Iceland are now finding their way to new readers abroad. These include Audur Ava Ólafsdóttir´s novel, DJ Bambi, which is expected to be published in French and Faroese this year, Lungu by Pedro Gunnlaugur García will be published in Portuguese, Snerting by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson will be published in a German translation and Herbergi úr öðrum heimi by María Elísabet Bragadóttir in Danish.

Icelandic authors will be conquering new territories, like Friða Ísberg with the book Merking, which will be published in Turkish, and a new Hungarian translation of Truflunin by Steinar Braga is expected.

Rán Flygenring's children's book Vigdís, the first female president will be published in French and Japanese, Eldgos in Estonian and Tímakistan by Andri Snær Magnason will be translated into Ukrainian.

The Icelandic crime novel continues its winning streak abroad, and the works of Sólveig Pálsdóttir and Stella Blómkvist are expected in English, and the coming months will see the publication of Ragnar Jónasson in Spanish and Skúli Sigurðsson in Swedish.
