Grants for translations into Icelandic from French, German, Italian, English, Russian, Spanish and Catalonian
The Icelandic Literature Center has awarded 24 grants for translations into Icelandic, in the second round of grant allocations in 2020.
Works by authors Peter Handke, Svetlana Alexievich, Leila Slimani, Colson Whitehead, Sergei Dovlatov, Bernardine Evaristo and many more have been allocated grants.
The Icelandic Literature Center has awarded 24 grants for translations into Icelandic from other languages, in the second round of grant allocations in 2020. Twice a year the Center allocates those grants, and in 2020 it has allocated 59 translation grants. A total of 97 applications were received during the year, which is the largest number since 2008, when the number of applications was the same.
Recipients of the grants are of diverse kinds, and a variety of Icelandic translations maybe expected before long, for readers of all ages. The importance of good translators is universally acknowledged, as without them Icelanders would not be able to read foreign books in their own language. The works are translated from English, French, Russian, Catalonian, Italian, Spanish and German, so Icelandic readers can look forward to wide range of exciting reading.
