Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir, author, died in the early hours of May 7.

Fríða Á. SigurðardóttirFríða Á. Sigurðardóttir, author, died in the early hours of May 7, aged 69.

Sigurðardóttir, who began writing full-time in 1978, was one of Iceland's most respected authors. Her first work of fiction, the short-story collection Þetta er ekkert alvarlegt / Nothing Serious, came out in 1980. During her career, she produced six novels, three short-story collections and a large number of Icelandic translations of foreign works.

Her novel Meðan nóttin líður / Night Watch (1990) received the Icelandic Literary Award in 1991 and the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 1992. The work has since been translated into many languages.

Her last work was Í húsi Júlíu / In Julia's House, which was published in 2006. She was as an honorary member of the Icelandic Writers' Union. Further information on Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir can be found here.
