The Frankfurt Book Fair has begun, and will last from October 6-10. Although Iceland will not appear as the Guest of Honour until next year, this year's Book Fair will see many events related to Icelandic literature and publishing. The 2010 Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair is Argentina.

Wednesday, October 6
13:00, Hall 5.0, Stand D 941: “Weltempfang”
“Myth and reality in Icelandic thrillers”: Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, author, Kristján B. Jónasson, chairman of the Icelandic Publishers' Association and Kristof Magnusson, author and translator, take part in a discussion on Icelandic crime fiction.
Thursday, October 7
10:30, Room Europa, Hall 4, 1st floor: Press Conference
A press conference on Iceland's appearance as Guest of Honour 2011. As the 2011 Book Fair approaches, Iceland will present a multitude of literature- and culture-related events, aiming to promote Icelandic culture in Germany. Since the schedule will be vast and varied, a press conference will be held at this year's Book Fair.

15:00, the ARTE stand: ARTE with Steinunn Sigurðardóttir
“Von Reykjavík nach Berlin – From Reykjavík to Berlin”: The author Steinunn Sigurðardóttir, who spent many years living in Berlin, will be interviewed. The event is a collaboration between Sagenhaftes Island and the German television channel ARTE.
16:00, The collective Iceland stand in Hall 6.0 A 944: “Have a look at Iceland”
Icelandic literature will be at the forefront of the 2011 Book Fair, and this event presents a close-up view of the world of Icelandic publishing. Sagenhaftes Island and The Icelandic Publishers' Association organize the event, which will be attended by numerous Icelandic publishers.

14:00, The ARTE stand: ARTE – The Icelandic Sagas
“Isländische Literaturschätze – The Treasures of Icelandic Literature”: A forthcoming translation of the complete Icelandic Sagas is presented. Halldór Guðmundsson, Director of Sagenhaftes Island, Klaus Böldl, editor of the collection, and Hans Jürgen Balmes, Editor-in-Chief Fiction at S. Fischer Verlag, discuss the project.

15:30, Forum, Level 1: Argentina passes the “Guest Scroll” on to Iceland
Following readings from the Argentine author Juan Gelman and the Icelandic author Guðbergur Bergsson, Argentina, the 2010 Guest of Honour, will pass the “Guest Scroll”– an artwork specially designed for the Frankfurt Book Fair and engraved with passages from the guest-country's literature – on to Iceland.
