A new novel by the crime titan and Gold Dagger winner Arnaldur Indriðason, titled Furðustrandir (Strange Shores), appeared in Icelandic stores on November 1. The book, Arnaldur's fourteenth, marks the return of Indriðason's most famous creation, the doggedly single-minded Inspector Erlendur Sveinsson, who has been largely absent from Arnaldur's last two books.
The author is tight-lipped about the new book's plot. “I'd rather not spoil it for the readers,” he said in a recent interview. “But I guess you could say that it's about revenge, and what a dismal instrument it is for attaining any sort of justice.”
As revealed to Sagenhaftes Island in a recent interview, the new book is interwoven with his last three books, which all take place over the same three week period in 2005.
English-speaking followers of Arnaldur Indriðason also have something to look forward to, as his third novel, Operation Napoleon, was recently published in the United Kingdom by Harvill Secker Books.
