The Icelandic Literary Prize

The nominations for the 2010 Icelandic Literary Prize have been announced. Two prizes are handed out, for Fiction/Poetry and Non-Fiction, with five nominees in each category. Two three-person juries will decide who the winner is.

Nominations for Fiction/Poetry:

Bragi Ólafsson: Handritið að kvikmynd Arnar Featherby og Jóns Magnússonar um uppnámið á veitingahúsinu eftir Jenný Alexson (Letters of Intent). Published by Mál og menning.

Bergsveinn Birgisson: Svar við bréfi Helgu (A Reply to Helga's Letter). Published by Bjartur.

Gerður Kristný: Blóðhófnir(Bloodhoof). Published by Mál og menning.

Sigurður Guðmundsson: Dýrin í Saigon(The Animals of Saigon). Published by Mál og menning.

Þórunn Erlu-Valdimarsdóttir: Mörg eru ljónsins eyru (The Lion Has Many Ears). Published by JPV.

Nominations for Non-Fiction:

Einar Falur Ingólfsson:Saga-Steads – In the Footsteps of W. G. Collingwood. Published by Crymogea and The National Museum of Iceland.

Guðni Th. Jóhannesson: Gunnar Thoroddsen – Ævisaga (Gunnar Thoroddsen – A Life). Published by JPV.

Helgi Hallgrímsson: Sveppabókin – Íslenskir sveppir og sveppafræði (Icelandic Mushrooms) Published by Skrudda.

Margrét Guðmundsdóttir: Saga hjúkrunar á Íslandi á 20. öld (A History of Icelandic Nurses in the 20th Century). Published by the Icelandic Nurses' Association.

Sigrún Pálsdóttir: Þóra biskups og raunir íslenskrar embættismannastéttar (Þóra of the Bishop, and the Tribulations of Icelandic Officials) Published byJPV.

The Icelandic Literary Prize was first awarded in 1989. Last year, it was awarded to Guðmundur Óskarsson for the novel Banksterand Helgi Björnsson for Jöklar á Íslandi (Icelandic Glaciers). The President of Iceland will present the winners with the prize at a ceremony at the presidential residence in late January 2011.
