Attention, book hoarders
Sagenhaftes Island is calling on Icelandic bibliophiles to send pictures of their private book collections, to be exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
Private home libraries have long been a prominent feature of Icelandic households. Besides being read for pleasure and profit, handsome book collections are prized for their ornamental value and often have a central place in Icelandic homes.
Sagenhaftes Island is now launching a project on this seldom mentioned feature of Icelandic life, and enlisting the public to help. We are calling on Icelanders to send in pictures of their own home libraries, to be
exhibited at the 2011 Book Fair's Guest of Honour Pavilion in October. All Icelanders are invited to take part in the exhibition, which aims at offering the projected 300,000 guests of the Frankfurt Book Fair a glimpse into Icelandic homes.
Photographs can be emailed to info@sagenhaftes-island.is or posted directly to our Icelandic Facebook profile. Video clips will be made on 30 of the submitted book collections, featuring the owners talking about their favorite reads. Finally, three randomly chosen contributors will be invited to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair in person.
As well as being featured at the actual exhibition, the submissions and video clips will be accessible on our Icelandic Facebook profile.
