The works of Þorsteinn frá Hamri published in Germany
The German publishing house Queich-Verlag has published Jarðarteikn – Erdzeichen,a bilingual anthology of the poetry of Þorsteinn frá Hamri.
The German publishing house Queich-Verlag has published an anthology of the poetry of Þorsteinn frá Hamri. The book is a bilingual edition, named Jarðarteikn– Erdzeichen (lit. Earth Signs), with translations by Gert Kreutzer, Professor of Nordic Studies at the University of Cologne. The anthology spans Þorsteinn's entire fifty-year career.
Þorsteinn has taken part in numerous events of Sagenhaftes Island. He read from his poetry at a press conference on June 6, where the Sagenhaftes Island's cultural programme in Germany was presented. On the “Day of Icelandic Poetry” on June 8, during which Icelandic poets appeared in eleven cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Þorsteinn gave a reading at the Literaturhaus Berlin an introduction by by former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
Those who attended the events of the Day of Icelandic Poetry received a copy of yet another anthology, Isländische Lyrik,published by Insel Verlag. The book is a retrospective of Icelandic poetry, spanning more than a millenium of Icelandic poetry, from the country's settlement to the present day, and containing, among other things, three poems by Þorsteinn.
