This was the eleventh Reykjavík International Literary Festival, but the first time the PEN International Congress has been held in Iceland. Hundreds of writers and journalists from all corners of the world visited Reykjavík to attend the PEN International Congress in the Harpa concert hall and conference centre.
The Reykjavík International Literary Festival was formally opened on Wednesday September 11, and as usual a group of international writers and foreign publishers, agents and journalists were invited. This year foreign writers attending the festival included Antonio Skármeta (Chile), Douglas Coupland (Canada), Can Xui (China), Madeline Miller (USA) and Kjell Espmark (Sweden).
The Reykjavík International Literary Festival, in collaboration with the Iceland Literature Center and Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature, invited journalists, publishers and writers' agents from France, Italy, Britain, USA, and Denmark. The festival was extremely well attended, and considered a great success.
