During the year 2014 the Icelandic Literature Center allocated among other 80 grants for translations of Icelandic works into 28 languages. These are translations of novels, children's books, poetry, and non-fiction books.
Applications included translations of The Creator by Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir into French and Malayalam, Jón Kalman Stefánson's Heaven and Hell into Arabic, and LoveStar by Andri Snær Magnason into French. Applications for the translation of Sjón's Moonstone into six languages were also sent in.
The Icelandic Literary Prize 2014 was awarded in three categories. The award for fiction and poetry went to Sjón for his novel Mánasteinn: Drengurinn sem aldrei var til (Moonstone: The Boy Who Never Was), published by JPV. The nonfiction prize went to Guðbjörg Kristjánsdóttir for Íslenska teiknibókin (The Icelandic Model Book), published by Crymogea and the newly minted prize for books for children and young adults went to Andri Snær Magnason for the novel Tímakistan (Timecasket). Moonstone has already been published in numerous languages including Finnish, Danish, Faroese and Swedish.
In May the Icelandic Literature Center awarded special support for New Writing in Iceland to four works by new authors, among them Kvíðasnillingarnir The by Sverrir Norland.
