Freyja Melsted

Freyja Melsted (1991, in Pettenbach, Austria) is a literary translator from Icelandic, English and Spanish to German. After graduating from secondary school in Austria she permanently moved to her second homeland Iceland, where she studied Russian and Comparative literature at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík and worked as a tourist guide. In 2015 she moved back to the European mainland, studying Literary Translation (MA) at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. Freyja lives in Düsseldorf as a full-time freelance translator. In addition, she teaches literary translation at her alma mater in Düsseldorf and is co-founder of TraLaLit, an online magazine for translated literature. Freyja is a member of VdÜ (German Association of Literary Translators).
